Materials Required: COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. TATTING-CROCHET, Art. C.21, Size 70: 1 ball of No. 1 White. Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 14. 8 bone rings, '/2 inch in diameter .. . Blue satin for pillow.

Chain (ch), single crochet (sc), double crochet (d c), stitch (st)

FIRST MOTIF

• Starting at center, ch 8. 1st rnd: In 8th ch from hook make dc, ch 5) 3 times. Join with sI st in 3rd ch of ch-8.

• 2nd rnd: Ch 1, working over bone ring make 12 sc in each ch-5 sp around. Join to first sc.

• 3rd rnd: Ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr, skip first sc, d tr in next 3 sc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), * ch 5, sI st in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), ch 8, picot in 3rd ch from hook, ch 2, make a 4-d tr cluster over next 4 sc.

• Repeat from * around. Join last ch-2 to top of first cluster (12 clusters). Break off.

SECOND MOTIF

• Work as for First Motif until 2 rnds have been completed.

• 3rd rnd: Ch 5, make a 3-d tr cluster over next 3 sc, (ch 2, picot, ch 2, sI st in center of any loop on First Motif, ch 2, picot, ch 2, make cluster over next 4 sc) twice; complete rnd as for First Motif (no more joinings).

• Make 2 more motifs, joining them to first 2 motifs as before, leaving 1 loop free at center between motifs (this forms a square).

CORNER MOTIF

• Work as for First Motif until 2 rnds have been completed.

• 3rd rnd: Ch 5, make 3-d tr cluster over next 3 sc, ch 3, sI st in 4th picot preceding joining between motifs on square, * ch 1, sI st in 3rd ch of ch-3, thus joining picot, ch 6, sI st in next picot, ch 1, sI st in 5th ch of ch-6, ch 2, 4-d tr cluster over next 4 sc, ch 3, sI st in next picot.

• Repeat from * until 8 picots in all have been joined. Complete as for First Motif. Make 3 more corner motifs, joining them to the square as First Corner Motif was joined.

• Attach thread to any free loop at center, ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr (make d tr in free loop of next motif) 3 times; thread over and draw through all loops on hook. Break off. Make satin pillow the same shape as motifs. Sew motifs to pillow.
